Should Believe In Prophets

Written in Turkish by Mehmet Yaşar KANDEMİR

Translated into English by  Furkan YORULMAZ

Allah sent prophets to all creatures that He gave intelligence as angels and humans.[1]

Allah sent prophets to angels from angels, and to humans from humans, He always chose prophets from man that He sent to humans.[2]

Allah wanted humans to believe him, His angels, and His books, also He wanted His prophets to be believed,[3] and Allah said:” Believe in Allah and His Messenger”.[4]

Allah mentioned prophets should be believed as:

Say, [O believers], "We have believed in Allah and what has been revealed to us and what has been revealed to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the Descendants and what was given to Moses and Jesus and what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [in submission] to Him."[5]

The names of twenty-five prophets were mentioned in The Qur’an

Prophets Were Sent To Every Nation

Allah commissioned persons from every nation which He desired as prophet.[6]

And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], "Worship Allah and avoid Taghut."[7]

There is not a society that was not sent a prophet.[8]

Allah’s sending prophets to His servants has mainly two reasons:

First, He makes His servants happy by informing his servants about endless beauties that He will give in hereafter or warning the ones that don’t do his orders.

Another one is that preventing from excuses like,” We did not have a prophet, we did not know true and false.” [9]

With the coming of prophet to every nation, there is no information about their exact number. Some of them were informed to our prophet, and some of them were not.[10]

Prophets and Their Features

Also, prophets eat, drink, marry, have kids, and when the time comes they die as other people. [11]

Our prophet described these characteristics of prophets when He said: "I am only a man like you”.[12]

However, they have features that other people don’t have.

One of the most important characteristics of prophets is that They show miracles.

By authorizing prophets to show miracles, Allah says to his servants as:

‘I charged this person that you know as a prophet and I authorize him to show miracles to make you believe him.’

Also, prophet announced by showing miracles to the people that don’t believe him as:

‘If you don’t believe me then you do what I did, but surely you cannot.’

Prophets cannot show miracles every time they want, they can show in the time that Allah wants and chooses.

Allah enabled prophets to show miracles that can attract people’s interests at that time. For example, in the time of Moses wizardry was popular. Therefore, Allah gave him miracles like wand miracle. In that times sorcerers casted spells with a wand and  ropes.

When prophet Moses drops the wand, the wand becomes a snake, it gulps down all sorcerers cast items. [13]

Prophet Jesus started speaking even he was in baby bed. When he became a prophet when he used to pray or touch, with the permission of Allah he resurrected dead and healed some illnesses. [14]

Our Prophet’s Miracles

Our prophets miracles are innumerable.

* With his one gesture the moon split into two pieces.[15]

* When muslims are thirsty water flows from his fingers.[16]

* Normally the food is enough for few people, when he touched the food, the food becomes enough for many people. [17]

* His biggest miracle was Qur’an. Even he was an illiterate person, brought Qur’an as an amazing book, he presented that he did not write Qur’an, and it is sayings of Allah.

*Our dear prophet sometimes saw the angel named Gabriel that brings wahy to him as an angel, sometimes sees it as a human, and our prophet used to learn divine commands that angel brought to him.[18] Our prophet saw Gabriel alayhissalam its own shape two times in mi’raj with its six hundred wings. [19]

When our prophet mentioned his feature about that once he said: "Indeed, I see what you do not see, and I hear what you do not hear.”[20]

*The earth’s surface was folded in front of our prophet. When he mentioned that feature of him he said: "Indeed, Allah gathered the earth for me so that I saw its east and its west. And surely my Ummah's authority shall reach over all that was shown to me of it.”[21]

*The facts that cannot be known by mind and senses, for example, Allah informed him the news about old nations and prophets.[22]

The Last Prophet

Allah informed that there will be no more prophets after prophet Muhammad as: “…but [he is] the Messenger of Allah and last of the prophets.”[23]

Our prophet told that He is the last prophet with that comparison:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "My similitude in comparison with the other prophets is that of a man who has built a house completely and excellently except for a place of one brick. When the people enter the house, they admire its beauty and say: 'But for the place of this brick (how splendid the house will be)!"[24]

The meaning of last prophet is that:

Previous prophets were sent just their nationalities. They only transferred the commands of Allah to their society. The examples that are given in the Qur’an show it obviously:

“We had certainly sent Noah to his people” [25]

“And to the 'Aad [We sent] their brother Hud.”[26]

In the Qur’an, same as it, it is indicated that prophet Salih was sent to the Thamud, and Shu’ayb was sent to the people of Madyan. [27]

Allah expressed that was sent to the people in his times and also to the people that will come till Qiyamah as:

“And We have not sent you except comprehensively to mankind as a bringer of good tidings and a warner. But most of the people do not know.”[28]

“Say, [O Muhammad], "O mankind, indeed I am the Messenger of Allah to you all, [from Him] to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death." So believe in Allah and His Messenger, the unlettered prophet, who believes in Allah and His words, and follow him that you may be guided.”[29]

There are qualifications that is not given to other prophets but our Prophet. These are going to be discussed in “Should love prophet and respect” issue.
